Province - Cartago
This province of Costa Rica is located in the central part of the country, the capital of the province is also named Cartago and until
1823 is was the capital city of Costa Rica, after this year the capital was changed to San Jose.
Cartago contains the 8 cantons of, Cartago, Paraiso, La Union,
Jimenez, Turrialba, Alvarado, Oreamuno and El Guarco.
The capital of the province features the famous Basilica, Volcanoes, Mountains, the best Technical University and probably some of
the best White Water Rafting in Costa Rica. Cartago also contains the important National Parks and Protected Wildlife areas of the
Irazu Volcano National Park and the Zapanto National Park, in addition to thes sites there is also the Guayabo National Monument, which
is the largest and most important archaeological site discovered in Costa Rica. Cartago also contains so of Costa Ricas coffee growing
areas such as Tres Rios.
