Province - Limon
The province of Limon is located in the eastern part of Costa Rica, along its coast with the Atlantico Ocean and is commonly referred to as the Caribbean region of Costa Rica. The capital of the province is Puerto Limon, and important international shipping port for Costa Rica. It has the 6 cantons of Guacimo, Limon, Matina, Pococi, Siquirres and Talamanca.
The province stretches all way from Panama to Nicaragua, it is situated along the Caribbean Sea on the Atlantic Coast with some of the most beautiful Beaches, nature attractions and national parks of Costa Rica, like the Tortuguero National Park and the Bri Bri Indians. The name of the Province comes from a Lemon Tree that was found in front of the governor's office which was unique of its class. The principal activities of the area are banana, pineapple, and palm-oil production as well as pejibaye, cocoa, bamboo, beans, fruits, coconuts and some cattle farming and fishing.
Limon was first discovered in 1052 when Christopher Columbus landed on its shores, the weather is hot and humid all year and this province receives the most rainfall of the country. The least travelled province of Costa Rica has assisted in maintaining some of the wildest and undisturbed areas throughout the country.
